I have everything you can possibly think of for a baby, after my baby shower. Except a basinet. But how much do I really need one? I have the large pack n play that I will keep in my room and around the house, plus the crib. So should I just not worry about the basinet?

  1. nope. not needed!! a waste of money.

if you have a pack in play or play pen, you could use that next to your bed.

  2. You can totally get by (more than get by, actually) without the bassinet.  My son is 17 months now, and he only slept in his bassinet for 3 months, so it's not worth the investment, unless someone gives you one.  And the pack 'n play is great!  Especially if yours has a "top" layer, it can function very well as a bassinet for the first 5 months or so.

  3. We have a bassinet, and it ended up sitting in a corner collecting spare baby blankets, clean clothes etc. Some people use them quite a bit, but I found it easier to sleep with the baby, it gave me security and peace of mind, and I am a really light sleeper, so any time the baby moved in the bassinet, I would wake up. I think bassinets are one of those things like changing tables and bottle warmers. A good idea in the beginning, but a waste of space later on.

  4. If you have a pack n play and a crib, you won't need it.

  5. I have one. I have never, ever, EVER used it. It just didn't make sense to. When she was tiny she didn't want to sleep on a flat surface so she slept on a papasan bouncer. When she was bigger she slept in bed with me or her crib and now she sleeps in her crib. It was just in the way. I dont' have a pack and play either, and I've never felt like I needed one.

  6. i don't think you really need it i used one but becaue my baby was a preemie so it was better i felt like he wasn't going to get cold during the night because its so covered i liked having it but he only used it for about 4 months i do really think its necessary

  7. I have never once used my bassinet and she has only slept in her crib maybe twice for a daytime nap!! She slept in the raised part (bassinet type part) of her pack and play next to my bed for the first few weeks and now she sleeps with me in my room!! If I had a bigger house I might use her bassinett for naps but I dont need it!!

  8. I don't find those large pack n plays very easy to move around the house.  We stationed ours in the living room as it also has a changing area so it works well to not have to go upstairs as frequently.  We have a crib for her own room as well however she's only been in it to nap once in her 4 months of life.  We kept her in the bassinet in our room (it was the bassinet off her stroller) until she got a little to long for it.  We now have her in our room still in a Graco Travel Lite and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!  In fact, I wish I had bought it sooner... if you're shopping around for a bassinet I would recommend this instead... it goes a little further for your buck (their cost is pretty close to that of a bassinet)!   It has a removable bassinet and then is the reg. type pack n play crib instead it's smaller than the usual size.  It actually fits through doorways without having to minimize it!  You can check it out: http://www.gracobaby.com/products/subcat...

I should also mention that I chose to keep her in our room because I am breastfeeding and it is easier on both of us then going into her room... plus even though I swore before she was born she'd sleep in her own room, I really like having her close by so I can easily check on her throughout the night. =)

Anyhow, congrats and good luck! =)

  9. You don't really NEED a bassinet. I liked the convenience of having one, though, and it offered our baby more security those first few months. He liked the closeness he felt because it was smaller than his crib. We did buy ours at Once Upon a Child for $40 so we weren't out too much anyway.

  10. n ope. pack n play is fine

  11. After having 4 children and 19 grand.  The answer is no.  You do not need a bassinet.  It is only for convenience.  The baby should be sleeping in his/her own bed from the very beginning. If you don't have one then don't go out and buy one.  I received one with my first and the only time it got used was when my daughter was at my Mother's house.  And she out grew it so fast.  If you just want something for the baby to lie in then you can get a oversize clothes basket and put a firm pillow in the bottom, that way when you are finished with the basket you can use it for his/her clothes.

  12. you realy dont need one - its just a convieniance to have one around thats all..

I had one for 2 of my children, and yes it was nice to have as a  convient item - i didnt have a pack n play

but for the bassinet, you realy dont get a lot of use out of them, and babies outgrow them so fast

and with the pack n play's they have today - there is a bassinet built right into some of them

  13. I got a beautiful bassinet! I thought it would be so sweet to have my little baby girl sleep in such a beautiful place when she came home but she hated it! She took just a handful of naps in it and it now sits disassembled in the closet. *Sigh* Maybe our next one will like it!

  14. I totally agree with the first answer. It's not 100% necessary to have one but I recommend it. My daughter also liked the closeness and security whilst in the bassinet. The are convenient and you can take them into any room of the house.

  15. We have a newborn too, and a bassinet.  We hardly use it though.  You don't really need it.

  16. I REALLY WOULDN'T BOTHER WITH A BASSINET WE HAD ONE GIVEN TO US AND OUR LITTLE GIRL DIDN'T LIKE IT AT ALL AND ANOTHER THING WAS THAT SHE DIDN'T FIT IN IT  AND SEEING NOW HOW QUICKLY SHE HAS GROWN IT WOULDN'T HAVE LASTED FOR VERY LONG

  17. I didn't have a bassinet but I did have a cradle that I hardly ever used. I actually felt guilty about it because it was a waste of money. My babies both slept in the crib or in bed with me. The pack n play is for naps and playtime when we're away from home and we use it quite a bit. I wouldn't worry about a bassinet at this point.

  18. You don't need it.
