I'm planning on doing cross country, and the coach told us to run no less than 15 miles, increseing it each week. He said we have to be atleast to 30 miles a week by august, when we start trainning as a team. I was wondering how much your coach told you, cause 30 doesn't really seem like a lot.

Do you think I should run more. I am a beginner, and am out of shape. I have about 3 months to get better.

  1. listen to your coach. You can be great with 30 miles a week if you're racing 5k

You can also suck running 50 or 100 miles a week..

I've done all different mileages...its not the quantity, its the effectiveness of the workouts

  2. No need, dont try to injure yourself. Follow your coach, consult him if you think you are not that comfortable with your training.

  3. I run cc and i am a freshman.  I run about 50 to 60 miles a week wich is about 8 miles a day.  We are training hard to make it all state as a team.  You could probably do 15 to 30 miles a week until you feel better in shape and then try raising the milage.  Run some longer runs on the weekends.  Just push yourself every practice and your improvements will show.  Good luck.  "The best pace is a suicide pace, and today feels like a day to die" said by Steve Prefontaine.  Profesional runner.  Good luck and work hard.

  4. i run about two miles every week. i only run mainly during pe. sometimes during the summer i run to keep myself fit.

  5. i run about 10 miles a day i run track babyy

  6. i run 5 miles a day.. (im a track runner)

  7. i run 3 a day i run track (like the other guy) but im 13 so

  8. any where from 25-30 miles per  day, no joke!!

  9. Okay, what level running are you? I run high school and our miles a week are about 50 miles(intense, huh?). The lowest a week is 47 miles. When we first started we started with 35 a week, pretty easy I guess.....

And, when you are doing X-Country, 30 miles...would be a lot when you are out of shape....considering most of it is probably hill workouts....and that is tiring. And, don't start out with too much, once you get into like end of June, early July, that is when you increase you running by yourself. If you start out  REALLY easy to get hurt....your muscles will be over worked....

You are going to do fine, if you are worrying about doing good and training hard, it means that you have the mind-set and you will push yourself to do your best. Just try to do the best you can, and remember to have fun, the only time you have to worry about competition is like high school varsity......and if you are only expected 30 miles a week....you are probably in middle school or a not-very-competitve high school

    Good Luck in X-Country!

  10. what your coach said is good.  that's basically what my coach told me. (i'm a senior in hs and i run cross country and track) you really don't need to do that much over the summer. you start your hard training mid august at the start of practice

  11. my coach said to be able to run at least 36 miles in one week. But he also said that dont push yourself to hard or you might get hurt. Do all you can one day and it will take time but you will be able to run more and more each day. It might hurt a little the first week or so especially if your out of shape. What will help is if you eat the right foods and wear the right shoes. No you should run about that much dont push yourself to much but it will get better. Running is so much fun!!!!

  12. im only 13 but i run about 3-6 miles a day for an average of about 30miles a week
