  1. I went to see my boy friend last year.  He lives in northern Italy.

Overall, things over there were around 20% higher than Los Angeles pretty much covering everything from fruits, vegetables, fishes, meats, breads, rice, eggs etc plus the currency value difference : eruo 1 = $1.58

Internet access in the usa starts from $20, plus a phone line, so should be around $50/month.

cell phone, I am not sure, I have a family plan with 800 free minutes per month for 5 phones to share that cost our family around $17/month per person. It all depends on the plan and minutes you prefer.

Gasoline price currently is around $4.00- 4.30/litre

In resturants here, prices are close to northern Italy, but here food are in bigger portion thus means cheaper than northern Italy.  Thats why you can see a lot of over weighted americans here, and much less in Italy, because your food is served either in smaller portion or higher prices.

Overall, I would think its easier to survive in the usa than in italy if we have a stable job  with medical insurance covered.

In the usa, tax is lower than italy, but we have to pay for our college eduction unless we are smart enough to get the scholarship.

For income, because majority of income goes to your tax covering your education and medical care, you have much lower income in Italy than the USA. My boy friend, after finished 10 year medical school ,earns euro 3200/month ( bonus already included), but in the usa, the same junior doctor like him earns AT LEAST  euro 8000-$12000/month ( not include their bonus if there are any).

    Hope it helps.

P.S.  $50/month is the monthly internet access plus a phone line.  We need to have a phone line for internet access regarding it uses broadband, DSL or even dial-up.  The speed is the basic speed not the super fast one.  The cost would be the same no matter how many hours you go on line. For phone service, if you want to make a call, you will be charged some fee regardless domestic and international, and it depends on which plans you choose.  I said $50 is all for the basic usage of the phone line not heavily used.
