How much do you spend on back to school clothes?

I buy my daughter like one or two outfits and new sneaks and shoes

for now. I wait until Oct when it gets cooler. I don't see why parents go NUTS. I was in teh mall on Sat and these kids had hundreds of dollar worth of clothes. Crazy, I think!

I think your method is a good one.  My kids are too young for school yet but I remember my mom getting us a few jeans, a few skirts, a few tops and 2 pairs of shoes.  Of course, we bought clothes all year long as we needed them.  Also, we would mix our new clothes with the clothes we already had to make whole new outfits.  I think I would spend $100-$200 at the beginning of the school year for my children.  I'm also a bargain hunter and a great shopper so I know I could buy a lot of stuff with just $100.

My daughters have outgrown all their long pants so I will buy each of them 3-4 pairs of long pants, socks, underwear and new sneakers now.  I will also buy them a few of the cute plaid "back to school" skirts and tops that you can only find in the early fall.  In October I will buy long sleeved shirts, sweaters, another pair of shoes or two and a winter coat for my youngest. (The oldest can still wear hers from last year.)   I buy each of them something about every other month til April when I start buying spring and  summer stuff.  My kids are young elementary so I shop at Consignments stores and craigslist to save money.  My kids also get lots of hand-me-downs from neighbors and friends.  They are young and love to get clothes from their friends.  I don't have a particular budget I just try to get the best deal on what they need. I agree that it seems crazy (and expensive) to buy everything all in one month.

My kids clothes are all hand me downs. They only get new clothes as a gift on their birthdays and Christmas from relatives and friends. I do buy them shoes though. =)

I am a mom to a 4yr old and 2yr old so I don't need to buy them clothes but I am full time college student so I buy for myself :) I agree with you, there is no point in buying all this clothes when its going to be cold soon and you will need to buy sweaters and so forth...right now there are alot of short sleeve shirts out and sandles still....I just bought 2 pairs of jeans from Kohls cause they had a good sale and I am going to wait for the cool weather clothes to come out to buy some more...usually I wouldn't but I have gained some weight and need bigger sizes :(

I agree with you.  I only buy the essentials before school starts since many things still fit from Spring time (still cool)

I'm one of those parents that went "nuts", lol. My daughter starts kindergarten  this year at a private school that has a dress code (no tank tops, flips flops, shorts, etc) and since my daughter lives in these clothes during the summer, I had to buy her a whole new wardrobe. BUT I'm smart about it and take advantage of all of the sales. I took care of her entire year of school clothes during one trip to the mall for $350 and that included 3 pairs of shoes.

I bought a whole closet worth of stuff at one time because most of my clothes were out dated but I did keep the clothes that are still in style I'm 12 and I'm a very wise shopper I spent around $100 and bought a lot of stuff because I also shopped at the thrift store and saved a lot of money I also have some name brand stuff like a Louis Vuitton handbag from the thrift store and clothes like Sarah Jessica Parker, Amanda Bynes, Venus Williams, and etcetera at Steve&barry's I also bought winter stuff that will last me the whole year not just all summer clothes I also got some leggings that I can wear under shorts and skirts for when its cold it's not nuts if you know what your doing by spending money wisely.

my mom always gets me 200 dollars worth of clothes cuz usually my clothes from the previous year are old and worn out and have you ever thought that parents that actually get there kids back to school clothes aren't nuts you are ?????????
