  1. i'd like to know this as well... i only ride english and so far since january i've spent about 10,000$ lol i bought my horse, i bought a fence, a haven't bought tack yet, i pay for his feed and vet bills and boarding.

i thnk i did pretty good =) most horses alone cost 10,000$ same with fences my neighbors fence cost 20,000$ and her horses keep knocking it over

EDIT** oh i forgot about riding clothes i spent about 800$ on about 3 or 4 good riding outfits

  2. I dont buy a new saddle every year. I have 2 saddles, both cost around $2500 each, and ive had 1 for 10 years, so if you pay the money you get the quality that lasts a very long time. I also have 2 bridle's one cost $100 the other only $50, Both hav lasted a while however i do expect the $50 one to go anytime soon. Halter and lead, I probably replace every 12 months or so and generally costs me $30, at the moment i dont even have a halter lol, i just lead him by the mane lol. Grooming needs, i probably replace my brushes every 12 months aswell but this is because they go walk abouts! lol. so theres another 30 a year (for very basic brushes etc) His boots and that generally last probably 2 years. and they cost me bout $150. Saddle pad, i honsly havnt brought one of these in about 6 years! I brought a gell pad back than and that was $100, this has lasted me untill now, and 1 saddle cloth was a sponsored one and i still have and use it to lol!

Saddle Pad- Charmayne james barrel pad- $100

Grooming needs- i have too many brushes i just counted and have 87 brushes total for just one horse, $150

  4. For just those items:

    Saddle - $500 to $1500 (depending)

Bridle - $35 to $100 (nylon or leather)

    Halter & Lead - approx. $35

    Combination Boots - approx. $100

Breast Collar - approx. $35 (sometimes sold in sets with bridle, reins, & tie-down for around $75)

Saddle Pad - around $75 for a good one.

You may also want shin guards for yourself, but I am unsure of their prices.

And some people change aspects of their tack yearly (saddle pads, bridles, breast collars, etc.) which really ups the cost. For starting out, I would just go with the basics and add on as you go. If you head to Equine Affair or AQH Congress, you can usually get AMAZING deals on tack and other stuff for your horse. So I would ask around and see what kind of prices you can get. And, as always, make sure everything fits your horse. If you buy without trying something on first, make sure you can take it back if it doesn't fit perfectly.

  5. saddle-2000

    bridal-150

    halter &lead- 80

gaming needs(splint boots, breast collors, ect.)-200-300

saddle pad- all of them (9) 120

and whatever else you need for tack!-300 give or take

  6. Barrel Saddle - Roughly $700 - http://chicksaddlery.com >they have nice saddles at good prices, average about $500 for a new, good quality barrel saddle.

Saddle Pad - $100 - You can get them cheaper but a GOOD one will be about $70+, I wouldn't pay more then $100

    Bridle - A fancy/show bridle, $150 -  A plain leather bridle, $30 - A plain nylon bridle, $10

Bit - $30, more or less depending on the kind.

Halter and lead - About $70 for both, but you can get them cheaper. Leather is more expensive.

    Splint Boots - $80 a pair

    Bell Boots - $10

    Breast Collar - $50+

You might need a tie-down, flank cinch, etc. - Each would be about $50+

    Gaming Reins - $30

  7. A year????

not sure what you mean by that....good tack will last a life time if properly cared for.

I would say, 850 for my saddle, 200 for my bridle, 20-50 per pad. 50 for halter and lead, 75 for splint boots and polos.....

just look in a horse magazine or online. You can estimate prices there.

  8. On a yearly basis, I really don't buy much.  Maybe just a new halter and lead rope, a set of reins, or a saddle pad or something.  Most of the stuff you buy will last a really long time, and you won't have to buy new stuff often.  If I had to rebuy stuff I've already got, this is what my stuff cost:

Work saddle: $1400 (Chavez Rough out)

    Show saddle: $1700 (Bob's - used)

Show bridle:  $150 (Chavez - teardrop style on ebay)

    Work bridle: $25

Sets of reins for each bridle: $70 total

    Halter: $15

    Lead rope: $5

Saddle pads: $50 (not including show pads, that would be more)

Then I've got things like show bits, work bits, polo wraps, etc.  If you don't own anything yet, you could rack up over $4000 in tack, but on a yearly basis, only spend like $100-200.  Check sites like www.sstack.com for good prices.  I also like www.valleyvet.com and www.statelinetack.com

    Good luck
