I have a 30" by 50" duffel bag (basically large enough that even I can fit in it) that I am filling with:

-Twenty Paperback books

-A comforter, sheets, two mattress pads, and pillow

-Three pairs of pants

-3 T-shirts

-Socks/Underwear/Undershirts

-6 Shirts

-1 Suit

-3 pairs of shoes

How much do you think it will weigh?

I don't have a scale and I won't be all packed until I leave for the airport. I want to make sure it meets weight requirements.

  1. That's a big duffle!!  I estimate that it weighs just under 60 pounds or about 10 pounds over the limit.

I have a 32" x  14" 2 compartment duffle with a plastic shell for the bottom.  When I put stuff in it like what you are packing (except for the paperback books) it weighs about 50 lbs.  Add the paperbacks and that makes it about 60 lbs..

Go to a sporting goods store and buy a spring type hand scale for weighing fish.  Be sure it will do 50 pounds or more.  Weigh your duffle bag.

  4. Why don't you put a smaller empty bag inside and if it does not meet requirements for a single bag switch some stuff over to the second bag.
