My boyfriend and I are buying a house next year and I just want to do a rough budget. I live in Sydney, Australia. I just wanted to know roughly how much you pay for Gas, Electricity, Water, House and Contents insurance and anything else you can think of? I know it depends of what company your with but like i said this is just a rough estimate. Any help is appreciated. I'm just trying to work out how broke we'll be!!

We have a family of 2 adults and 2 kids under 8, with one income. We live about an hour west of Sydney up in the Mountains. We budget for $700 per fortnight BUT, this money takes into account EVERY SINGLE BILL that comes into our house INCLUDING PETROL for 2 cars...well LPG for one and petrol for the other 1.4L Barina! It also pays for servicing of the 2 cars, all insurances @ home including health insurance etc...you are VERY SMART to start with a budget. Have a read of the page below for some great budgeting and home finance tips.

Further to this, on the page titled "Discount Shopping" look for the small note on insurance...we just saved over $250 on car insurance for our Barina by using this company...get yourself a quote.

  2. I pay jack all, I just force my parents to pay everything. Hey, it's THEIR home, right? Not mine, gimme a break.

  3. I live in a regional place in South East Queensland, so i dont know how relevant these figures are going to be for you, but here goes..

We have a gas stove, but for some reason, it uses those 'swap and go' servo cylinders - this suits us just fine though, cos we dont use the stove much, so that would average out to be like $30 every 3 months. Electricity, well the last bill for the quarter was $180. Water, i dont know, we haven't had our first rates bill, but we only get charged for excess water usage here. Home and Contents insurance is roughly $45 per month.

Other things are obviously the biggie, the mortgage. And insurance you have on the mortgage, like loan protection/income protection (our mortgage protection will payout the loan if either of us die and if my partner becomes ill - its $110 per month. Car insurance is about $40 per month. Umm.. cant think of anything else! Aside from your groceries!

  4. With everything - it varies according to how big the property is etc, but as a general guide (because general is better than nothing)

Gas, electricity and water will cost you approx $50 per month each.

I'm not even going to attempt to give you an insurance estimate, because it varies according to your age, location, security and past claims. Get an online quote.
