  1. One gallon of water weighs about 8 pounds. One gallon of jet fuel weighs between 6 and 7 pounds depending on the exact formulation. Oil floats on water, so it can't weigh more.

  2. JP-8 weighs  6.8 ppg  and water weighs 8.34 at standard temp.

As mentioned previously, fuel floats on water, so it is therefore less dense, and that defeats the myth right there.

  3. I dont know about water but Jet fuel is about 6.5 pounds per gallon.

  4. As a rule of thumb jet fuel is 6 pounds/gallon.  Water is 8.35 and AvGas 100LL which is used in small aircraft and helicopters is 6.8 pounds/gallon.

  5. You know jet fuel is diesel fuel. Look up the density of diesel fuel and water and compare.

  6. A gallon of Avtur weighs a tad over eight pounds - a gallon of water is 10 pounds

  7. Water is heavier, as stated above, That's why we Pogo (draw fuel out of the bottom of our tanks) periodically, to check for water.

There are small fittings at the bottoms of the tanks that we push a tube into, At the other end of the 6' tube is a glass jar. If there is water in the tank, it's easy to spot, as the JP8 will be floating on top.
