  8. For almost all practical purposes 1lb(mass) weighs 1lb (force) at most places on Earth.  You may be confused by the "metric" system where 1kg of concrete would weigh about 9.8N. In the SI system there are clearly different units for mass (kilogram) and force(newton) but for pounds the units are sort of the same and sort of interchangeable, though lbf and lbm are sometimes used to clarify for force and mass respectively.

  9. Would a pound of feather weigh the same as a pound of concrete?

  10. a pound is a pound, and to the feather question, of course? but it would take a helluva lot more feathers to equal a pound!

  11. On the surface of the Earth, the mass of 1 pound = 454 grams, and the force due to gravity is roughly 9.8 Newtons per kilogram, so 9.8 times 0.454 = 4.4492 Newtons.

1 cubic foot (ft³) of concrete weighs about 143 lbs.
