How much does PCM audio take away from blu-ray video quality?

  1. So far absolutely zero.  There are several movies that utilize a PCM soundtrack without sacrificing any video quality.  


  2. Why would audio take away from video quality?

    PCM takes up space, but Blu-ray video is going to be the same encoding no matter what audio formats are included. That's the advantage of Blu-ray ... lots of room on the disk.

    Even if there WERE a slight tradeoff (eg. a very high bitrate PCM track, lots of extras, forcing some compromise on the video) the difference would be insignificant for all but the most sensitive/trained eye, and then only with top end equipment.
