How much does a 16 year old from Australia earn in....?

Question

Target, Woolworths, Coles, Big W, Myer and other places?

I have started a job at Lennard's Chicken and I get paid $9.45 per hour. I also earn $10.45 per hour after 6pm.

I found out that KFC is $8.95 per hour for 16 year olds.

So I'm curious, how much do other stores offer for 16 year olds? Please be specific!

This website shows the award wages for employees in the Fast Food Industry in Queensland. Employers MUST pay you at least this per hour, but can pay more if they wish or if you are able to negotiate more.

As you can see, the award rate for a 16 year old is 55% of the Adult wage of $528.40 (the lowest level) . For casuals it it 1/38 of the full time award rate PLUS

(a)   23% for all ordinary hours worked. That works out at $9.45 per hour for normal working hours.

(b)  73% where the rate of pay is prescribed as time and a-half

(c)   123% where the rate of pay is prescribed as double time

(d)  173% where the rate of pay is prescribed as double time and a-half

The minimum period of engagement of a casual employee shall be 2 hours.

It's all very complicated but you will need to understand it to ensure that you are not ripped off.

I work at Target. When I was 16.. I was getting somewhere between $9-10. I'm sorry but I can't remember exactly (cos that was 2.5-3 years ago!).

-That's the casual rate though, which is 1.2 of the base rate. Mon-Sat (anytime) has the same rate. Sunday's is meant to be "one-and-a-half"...... but for casuals it's actually 1.7, which is the casual rate (1.2) plus 0.5 of the base rate.

Having said all this, I must add two things...

1. I may be wrong! I can't remember precisely the rates I was getting.

2. Every so often we get a slight increase in our rates. I remember for certain it happens on February-1, but I for get if that happens every 6 months or 12 months. So the pay rates will be slightly higher than what it was when I was 16.

-I know Coles employees get slightly more than Target.

-My (younger) sister, who works for Safeway, gets slightly more than I did at the same age.

-Never work at Hungry Jack's!! They have the worst pay rates ever!! One of my mates who worked at HJ's and is about 6mths older than me. We were getting *about* the same rate when he was 18 and I was still 17!!!

-I don't know any other shop's pay rates.

lastly I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but I live in Victoria.
