How much does a 70 mile round trip ticket cost on a new york traiin? chicago train?

trying to figure out mass transit costs around the country. in san diego it costs $11 for a 70 mile round trip on train. based off my mpg i only save $2.50. not much of an incentive to take mass transit. is this so in new york? chicago? other areas with well established mass transit?

Amtrak trains? or Long Island railroad trains?

they all ARE new York trains

and where are you starting from (amtrak fares will be diffenet

from Metro North trains fares even thoguh they service the same terriotry)
