I m interested in doing Marine Engineering.

I wanted to know whether there is good money in it.

  1. The captain works strictly for tips, and a free run at the midnight buffet.


  2. Depends on the line, ship, seniority, experience, language abilities, flag of ship,....    Around $20k/month for large US ships.     Why not ask what an engineer makes instead if you want to go into that field?    Cargo ships pay better too.

  4. If you are interested in marine engineering, you'll never be the master (captain) of the ship. The highest you could be is Chief Engineer, with comparable pay as master. They typically earn $75,000 to $150,000 depending on nationality, size of vessel, etc.
