  1. Taxis in London are not charged (only) by the minute.

    The actual rules are kind of complicated, but basically it comes to charging by the mile when the taxi is going above a certain speed, and by the second when going slower.

    Taking this into account, the exact numbers are :

    "# For each additional 149.8 metres or 32.2 seconds (whichever is reached first), or part thereof, if the fare is less than £14.80 then there is a charge of 20p

    # Once the fare is £14.80 or greater then there is a charge of 20p for each additional 105.0 metres or 22.6 seconds (whichever is reached first), or part thereof"
