  1. Some have been used by the Russians for lighthouse and other navigation equipment in unmanned remote locations. They have been used on spacecraft. The only non-governmental use seems to have been for cardiac pacemakers, but the are no longer used for that. The installed cost of a cardiac pacemaker without a defibrillator is of the $15,000 order of magnitude. How much of that is the cost of the battery? Would it be more for a pacemaker with a radioisotope thermoelectric generator? My guess is that if someone came up with some reason that a pacemaker or something like that really needed to have a radioisitope thermoelectric generator, they would charge $15,000 just for the generator.
