My brother-in-law is a tennis pro, and he supports my sister, their three kids, two dogs and a cat on just his salary. My SO and I are talking about starting a family, and she wants to be a stay-at-home mom. She isn't sure if we can do that on my salary, so I'm wondering what he most likely makes. I don't want to ask him directly, since I think that's kind of rude/weird.

  1. if he open his own school or acadamy of sorts he can make well into six figures.

  2. It depends on where he works. If he is under contract for a tennis club or a tennis team he probably makes somewhere from $25,000-$70,000. Also, it depends on his level of experience and if he is accredited.

  3. it depends. if they are coarching roddick or nadal then a lot of money, but a regular coah makes around 40,000 a year

  4. It depends on where they work.  If they work at a club, I would imagine they make a pretty decent salary, and it would vary depending on how nice of a club it is, and where it is.  Instructors who teach lessons on public park courts make a lot less than club instructors, because they usually work for themselves charging per lesson as opposed to earning a salary paid by a private club.

  5. I pay my coach about 30 bucks for a half hour lesson.  This is supposed to include court time, but he owns the place, so it all goes to him anyhow.

A quick calculation assuming that he's booked solid for a 40 hour week gives the result: over $110,000 per year.

Now, I'm sure your brother-in-law doesn't have a solidly-booked 40 hour week, so it'll be a little less than that.  Also, if he's employed as a pro at a club, he's getting a flat salary from that. He's probably getting a little extra from students, but not the whole cost.

To compare:  If you taught just 3 hours a day, every day, and did it on public courts, you'd make over $60,000 a year.
