We are leaving for our honeymoon in Tahiti, and I want to get a wax because my hubby would love it and I wouldnt have to worry about shaving as I'll be in a bathing suit nearly the entire time. Im really nervous about how much it will hurt though. Anyone have experiences to share? And how many days before we leave should I get it done?

  1. get the appoitnment first thing in the morning!

    hot shower first

do it about 3-4 days before the wedding

  2. the price depends on where u are and what type of establishment u go to. I'm in CA and I go to a Spa to get mine done. it was $65 for the first time then $50 for follow ups. I think the price is well worth it. its lovely to not have to shave down there for weeks as opposed to shaving every day and it not even staying smooth!

yes it does hurt the first time. make sure your hair has grown out long enough, short hairs are harder to pull out and hurt more. most of the rips dont hurt that bad but there are two specific areas that make you jump to the ceiling. i guess i have a high pain tolerance cause i've heard of people that couldn't finish the first time. just prepare yourself for 15 minutes of pain in exchange for weeks of smoothness that your new hubby will be sure to appreciate!!!!

i'd get it done 4 days before the big event. that gives it time to not be so sensitive.

    congrats!

  3. I got it done Wednesday before my Saturday wedding (and I asked a question too).  I have sensitive skin, and I was really worried.  Overall it was worth it because I didn't have to shave on the honeymoon and it was super smooth and made honeymoon nights really fun. . BUT  IT HURTS.  Like insanely.  My face was beat red and I think I yelled Kelly Clarkson a couple of times. . haha.  I would NEVER do it again, unless it was for a vacation.  I would do it close to the wedding (2-3 days prior) so it stays clear for the entire vacation, you will not have irritation (I didn't and I get rashes easily).

  4. i had one done for the first time before my honeymoon too..and all i can say is i was glad to be in the privacy of my mom's home and having her do it (she is a licensed esthetician) so i could yell out profanities at every rip. if you're in the right headspace you can probably breathe through the pain, but i'm a wooss and only went through with half of it. the pores started to raise and bleed a little. despite all of that, once it was over and the redness goes away you can't beat not having to worry about it. i'd say go 2 days before you leave and it should be smooth sailing. good luck!

  5. It depends on your pain tolerance. My first time I was a little nervous but came to find out that you barely feel it. They use an Emblacream (numbing cream) or spray beforehand and that helps a lot. I have a really high pain tolerance (check my profile for a list of sustained injuries lol) and it doesn't really bother me. There are a few spots that are worse than others but for the most part if you just breathe you'll be fine. The more tense you are, the more they say it hurts. I am a competitive athlete and shaving is too time consuming and frequent so I get routine waxes. The more often you go, the more tolerant you become as well.

If you have a low pain tolerance, it may very well be excruciating lol.

At least 3 days before the event will allow for any soreness to dissipate and any redness to go away (like when you get your eyebrows done) and will allow you to get used to it.

If it's any consolation it's worth it. Not having to shave is the best thing in the world lol.

    Good luck!!!

  6. It does hurt, but it's worth it.  Take an ibuprofen before and have them use a numbing spray or lotion.

  7. Well, Yeah it really hurts the first time. ALL the hair on one of the most sensitive areas of your body is getting yanked out. And chances are you will be swollen and very red for maybe 2 days.  But the good news is it gets easier each time after the first. and there is a product that you can buy that will help reduce the pain...I cant remember what its called but where ever you're planning to have it done should carry it. It helps to numb the skin a bit. Also take some Tylenol before you go in.

I'd say get it done 2 or 3 days in advance.

  8. The closer you get to the "landing strip" that most people leave, the more it hurts. Keep in mind that a Brazillian means EVERYTHING goes, including that "landing strip".  The "underneath" doesn't hurt very much at all.  If you're nervous, drink a glass (or a bottle!) of wine first. Usually higher end places will offer you a glass or 2.
