I'm lightening up the stang for racing and the carpet is torn up and I was thinking of just removing it. It's set up for racing anyway so it don't have to be pretty.

  1. Tear it out. It's not going to save much weight, but it can't catch on fire if it's not there! If you can get the carpet, seats, interior trim, and whatever part of the dash you don't need, out, you'll get that 1/10 of a second you're looking for. Those combined parts weigh almost 100 LBS. Swap in a racing bucket, a tube column, gut the doors(especially if they're power doors!),and the A/C(compressor,lines,and air box=60LBS)And you might drop another 100. Keep the car safe! Avoid cutting up the body and frame! If it's a convertible, Start over with a hardtop.Convertibles are heavier from the factory, due to the need for strength under the car. Good luck! I hope this helps!

  2. prolly around 30 lbs depending on how much sound deading there is.
