How much does a case of beer weigh, 24pack - 12oz bottles ?

Am I a madman to walk 1 mile to the beer distributor with my bookbag, carry the case a block or 2, then load all the bottles in my bookbag, and carry them home ?

  1. EVELYN, the ounces on a can or bottle are FLUID OUNCES, and are used to measure volume, not weight; although you were close! And FREYA, what world do you live in where 35 pounds isn't that heavy? Fill your bookbag with rocks and take a one mile walk...

To answer the question, a half case of beer is approx 1 gallon. A full case is approx 2 gallons, which equals 8 quarts, which approx equals 8 liters, which approx weighs 8 killgrams. Each kg is approx 2.2 pounds. 8 kgs weighs approx 17.6 pounds. Add the weight of the glass (approx 5 pounds) and you figure it weighs approx:

    22 pounds.

  2. that's 18 pounds

    12 ozs x 24 bottles =288ozs

    16 ozs= 1 pound there for 288ozs / 16 = 18

the case probably gives it an extra pound

  3. It's about 36 pounds according to my bathroom scale... seriously? They don't seem that heavy. Everything I can find online of 24 packs of 12 oz bottles says 36 pounds (The bathroom scale was right!?).

Depends on how much you want that beer...

Why not go for a smaller case?

I guess it wont be too bad if you have them in the bag, but they might clack together and break. So beeeee careful!

Evelyn: 12oz is how much fluid is in the bottles. You have to remember the bottles are not made of air.
