  1. It's the law

    • Children must ride in the back seat of a vehicle in a car seat or booster chair until they are 6 years old or weigh 60 pounds.

    • Newborns and infants must ride in rear-facing car seats until they are a year old and weigh 20 pounds.

    • Once a child is older than a year and weighs more than 20 pounds, they can only sit in forward-facing car seats.

    • Booster seats can be used once a child weighs 40 pounds. Unlike car seats, which have straps built into the chair, booster seats use a vehicle's seat belt to secure a child.

    • At 60 pounds or 6 years of age, a child can ride in a vehicle - front or back - without any kind of booster or car seat. However, CHP and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommend children stay in the backseat until they're 12 or 4 feet 9 inches tall.

  2. UCANTCME is MOSTLY right-Jan. of 2007, it became 60lbs AND 6 yrs old to be out of a booster seat. No laws state even Infants can't be in front, but it's common sense that they're safer in the back.

  3. in a lot of states, the child has to be twelve. in some states, 80 or 90lbs
