How much does a good home theater system cost?

I already have the hd tv i am just wondering about surround sound etc.

A good AV receiver runs $500-$800

A good subwoofer: $600 (and it's more important than you think)

A BluRay DVD player is about $400

A set of 5 speakers ... this is the tricky part.

You can get away with less-accurate (less expensive) speakers for movies.  A good set from a speaker company starts about $500 and can go $1,500.

Note that you can often get a 10-15% discount by buying speakers & receiver together from places like Magnolia, Tweeters, Circuit City.

A good receiver will cost about a thousand dollars but you will need to do some research do you want thx , dts how many speakers 5.1 , 7.1 , 9.1 blu -ray another thousand but do your research on-line ,compare prices and then bring them into the stores usually they will match the price or beat it especially if you buy all of the items all together speakers receiver DVD and cables
