  1. Put it this way.  Most gunsmiths are old men not because very few young people want to take up the trade but because only people with their houses paid off and grown children can live on what most gunsmiths make.

  2. If you want to make a lot of money don't become a gunsmith. Do it if you love mechanical work and are obsessed with guns and how they work etc. Go to the nearest gunsmith and ask him how he became one. It would be somewhere along the lines of an apprenticeship.

    Good luck!

  3. Unless you are an exceptional gunsmith, your income will not be all that great.  The few gunsmiths who are exceptional and who do custom work make good incomes.  The average gunsmith will supplement his income by running a small machine shop on the side.  Gunsmiths, after all, are specialized machinests.  They do, of course, have many other skills.  If you would like to become a gunsmith, there are a couple ways of doing it.  You can go to one of the community colleges which offer courses in gunsmithing or you can go into the military service and request to be sent to armorer's school.

It is not hard to find a gunsmithing sschool just do a Google search for "gunsmithing schools" and it will give you a list of schools where you can go to learn this trade.  Give this website a look www.technical-schools-guide.com/gunsmith...  For some unknowh reason YA likes to truncate websites.  You will have to add com/gunsmithing-schools.html after the word "guide." in the web address.

  4. Just as much as anyone else that gets paid on commission: It varies by the job, by the year, and so on.
