  1. The post above may sound harsh, but it has truth to it. Civilian training is highly expensive ($60K or more), and your first job will likely be flight instruction, which pays very poorly. Once instructors gain about 1000 hours flight experience, they can typically move on to flying offshore in the Gulf of Mexico or doing tours in Alaska or the Grand Canyon. These jobs usually pay $40K-$50K or so, and then pay will slowly increase with additional experience. In general, I would say that airplane pilots make more money over the course of their careers.

Check out this website for the pay scales at some helicopter companies:

  2. HELLO??!?!??!?!?!?!!

if you wanna be a helicopter pilot, and really want to be one, you won't GIVE A d**n how much it pays you. To be frank there are millions of jobs out there that pay better. But still You Gotta Love What You Do.

If you're worrying that you won't be able to make a living out of it well, you're right. You'll probably need another job until you find a good charter or company to get settled in and have a stable income. afterwards, you can ditch the other job you were having and live a pretty normal middle class/leaning towards rich life.

if you were slightly business alert, you might even start a company or charter and therefore be richer than just middle classed.
