for school, 46 kids (we're in 8th grade) are going to stay in Washington, DC. we're staying at The Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites hotel in Alexandria, VA. we have 4 per room (with 2 double beds) and we were wondering how to get 1 cot as well. We will probably be in the double-bed-guest-rooms, and we wondering a few things:

1. how much does a cot usually cost? (we'll split the price -- the 4 of us kids in our room will)

2. how do we get one? (do we call, ask at the desk, etc.)

3. if we order a cot, do you think we should ask the teachers etc. first before we order it?

thankssss!

  1. your teacher isn't going to let you do that

  2. i manage a holiday inn...

every hotel is different, as we're all independently owned.

our rollaways are $20 per night, plus tax. they're on a first come first serve basis so upon checkin is when you would request one. however, being a group, you should have a group contact at the hotel, and they might be able to reserve rollaways for you, since you're giving them a large piece of business.

if you're paying for it, then a rollaway isnt a big deal and i dont think you'd have to tell your teacher about it if you dont want to for some reason, lol.

    have fun!

  3. the cost usually depends on the hotel. Most hotels usually provide them at no extra charge. However, I have seen a hotel here and there that will charge anywhere from $5-$20 for them...so it's hard to say.

When you get there, call down to the front desk and ask for it. At that time, you can also ask if it costs any extra...the front desk agent will be able to tell you.

I don't think it's necessary to ask the teacher permission to get it...it's just a cot.

(oh yeah...in the business, it's called a rollaway, not a cot)

And be nice to the front desk...putting up with 46 kids in a hotel at one time is not exactly anyone's idea of a good time.

  4. 1. The cot has ranged from $12 to $25 in my experience.

    2. Call in advance, let them know.

    3. I'd ask teachers, many find cots uncomfortable.

  5. 'Helen Scott' (an answerer above) had all the right answers.  But let me add this..be quiet when in the hotel.  I stay in hotels between 125-150 nights per year, there is nothing worse than a group of kids traveling together.  If you want to have fun I completely understand, just do that outside the hotel.

  6. I think you're forgetting one crucial point.  The Hotel will most likely require an adult in each room unless you have connecting rooms then they might let the group get by with one chaperon for each set of connecting rooms.

The others are correct.  If there is an additional charge the group organizer would have to authorize the additional charges.

Why don't each of you take a sleeping bag.  Stack them 4 high.  It might make a more comfortable sleeping pallet then some mattresses I've slept on.
