  1. Cats and dogs that are sold in pet shops are usually the product of puppy and kitty mills where they bread animals on an appalling level.  Basically like a factory for living creatures.  They cost more at the pet shop and are usually extremely unhealthy and have alot of medical dilemmas.  Go to your local humane society and you will find many wonderful animals that need families to love them.  The humane society adoption fee is minimal and most of the animals are great.

  2. Well everyone here has already said what I would say which is do NOT purchase kittens from pet stores. Likely you will be supporting an extremely cruel act of animal abuse. An alternative which has been mentioned: It is always wonderful when someone adopts from the pound. You would be giving a kitten a second chance and will actually be SAVING an animal's life! How cool is that? Something else you can try:

    catster.com

Do a search for adoptable cats and kittens. It is a wonderful site.

  3. Adopt a kitty?? There are lots cute kittens in the shelter need a good home. :)

  4. It depends on the store.  Keep in mind that cost may or may not include other important things, like vaccinations and training.  Remember, a pet store is out to make a profit, so they will charge more or offer less than a non-profit organizations like a rescue shelter (which sometimes hold adoptions in pet supply stores).

So it's a much better deal to get it from a rescue shelter - the Humane Society where I live charges about $100 for a cat, but that includes all its vaccinations, identification microchip, health exam, and often other perks as well.  You would need to pay for these things anyway, so it's really a good deal.

  5. look on craigslist theres free ones under pets just look up your city.theres tons

  6. A better question would be why on earth would you WANT to buy a cat from a pet shop?  Pet shop cats come from kitty "mills" where kittens are churned out with no regard to their health and the focus entirely on making money.  Kittens sold are often quite sickly and end up costing you hundreds on vet bills and even dying.  And you're also supporting the breeding of cats for profit.

If you want a kitten or cat have your parents take you to your local shelter.  For an adoption fee of about $100 you'll get a cat or kitten that's already spayed or neutered, up to date on shots, deflead, dewormed and microchipped.  Getting all that done on your own will cost you $300-$400.  So not only will you be saving an animal's life by adopting you'll be saving yourself a LOT of money over a pet store or "free" kitten or cat.

  7. look on craigslist.. people are always giving away kittens or check your local classifieds... or yeah the shelter too.

  8. This time of year the shelters are overrun with kittens (at least in my community).  I'm begging you to adopt one from the shelter and save a life.  Make sure you neuter it too!

  9. Don't buy one from a pet shop.  As cute as they look, they may very likely have come from kitten mills (just like the infamous puppy mills on the news) - and if that's the case, they'll probably need medical attention ASAP, if they can be treated at all.  To be fair, not all pet shops cater to this, but is it worth the risk?  Not really.

Do the charitable thing and adopt from a shelter, or look on petfinder.com or craigslist.  It's easy to find good cats in any of these places, and in some cases, you won't have to pay a cent.

  10. PLEASE please dont buy one from a pet store.Go to your local pet rescue centre and they will gladly consider you for adopting one of their kittens/cats.
