  1. It depends on the cuisine, the city, and whether or not you'll be imbibing.

Let me see, the last truly upscale meal my wife and I had was Valentine's Day. We had upscale Indian food at a Houston restaurant called Indika. We both had dishes made with venison (deer meat), a glass of wine each, and we split a dessert. We also split a small appetizer. Our tab was $96, which included sales tax. With tip I paid $120 (service was phenominal, and most servers are paid a tiny wage plus tips, so I tipped over 25%).

One thing you Brits need to know about the US. Waiters and waitresses are paid roughly one pound fifty an hour. The rest of their income comes from gratuity. So, it is in their best interest to serve well and earn a good tip. People on your side of the pond are notorious for being bad tippers, primarily because you pay waitstaff differently.

EDIT: Looking at the answer directly above mine, yes that is correct for New York City. Prices are quite high in that area. Where I live (Texas) prices are much more reasonable.

  2. It depends on where you go.  In San Francisco, it's not unusual to pay up near $200 for two people.  In Los Angeles (the better part of it, anyway), it's cost up to $300 for two.  Keep in mind this is the whole deal - bread/cheese, appetizer, soup/salad, entree, dessert.

In Seattle, I've seen it more along the lines of $150 - although I once ate at this lovely resteraunt that overlooked Puget Sound and it cost the guy $250 (but he ordered some pretty expensive wine and appetizers).

In my hometown - if you pay more than $100 for two people - they ripped you off. And there are some great places to eat there.

  3. $100.00 in any city that doesn't have population of a million or more.

  4. Dinner-  alcoholic drinks/ bread on table . ordering salad or soup or appetizer then entree then coffee and dessert . Wine with dinner. In New York City $150-200. us depending on the wine and restaurant.  in a smaller town in the US. about $100.

  5. Theres a restraunt a few towns over thats fancy not the food just need to dress up and the place is nice.. with linnens and tux waiters/waitresses. I went for my 18th bday and never (now 25 yrs old) again. The food bill came out to 300 dollars for 5 people. That was just for a few plates of spagetti and some chicken dishes. Not a very good Idea. Id rather dine at a nice pub or steakhouse. Some normal food and a normal and relaxing atmosphere is more my style. Can you imagine how much more expensive the prices are now compared to when I was 18? They are steep. You can try it if you have the dough but if not just go to a good restraunt that serves burgers and sandwichs type of thing. A pub restraunt is always fun.

  6. over $100 for 2 people.
