How much does a money order cost in Michigan?

So, specifically I'm in East Lansing, MI so how much is it? Is it a specific price per $100?

  1. Yes, it varies with the amount of the money order, but it also varies with the place you buy it.  I would first check at the supermarket where you shop.  Where I live, they are the cheapest by far.  

    Banks will usually charge a lot, but if you have an account, some banks give you a discount (or even free money orders).  

    By the way, are you sure you actually need a money order?  Most people will also accept an official bank check (written in the bank's name rather than on your personal account).  In fact, I've found that a lot of people don't even know the difference. If you have an account, you can withdraw money that way (in a check written by the bank), and those are usually free.  So, if the person you are giving the money to will accept a bank check, you ought to look into that.

  2. 7-11 stores offer money orders for less than a dollar.  Money order can be up to $350 last I went.  That was the least expensive I could find.

    If you belong to a credit union they might be free, which would be even better.

  3. All you have to do is call your Bank or the Post Office, they will let you know.
