  1. It varies greatly. If you have gas stations that offer them, that rate is usually best. Often times $0.99. Postal money orders (purchased at post offices) range from $1.05 if under $500 to $1.50 for a money order up to $1,000 which is the max for a postal money order. Least cheap place to go is a bank. They can charge as much as $8 and more to get a money order.

If you need a check for a larger amount than $1,000 or so, you need a cashier's check, which is more expensive.

  2. The Post Office is usually a cheap place to buy a money order. Also a Pilot Truck Stop. Where I live my bank.credit union wants $5.00 for a money order and a cashier's check. So we get money from our account when we need to send a money order.  If you have some convenient stores close by, they might have a reasonable price for your money order. Good luck, J:)

  3. They vary in cost depending on where you purchase it, but they usually run anywhere from 50 cents to a dollar (plus the amount of money you are putting on it, of course.)

You can usually get them at the post office of someplace like a 7-11 store for a good price.

  4. The monetary value of the money order would not affect the price. However, it does depend on where you purchase the money order.  I'd recommend the US post office, or a chain store like Wal-Mart sell them for about $1.

  5. There is a very small amout charged, but if you have a bank account, they may not charge you if you get one there.
