  1. We live abut an hour's drive south of Belleville.  Do try and get to some other places while you're here - Kingston, Port Hope, Coburg, Brighton, Picton are all worth visiting, although Picton (and the Sandbanks National park) lacks public transport.

For apartments, you could try http://www.shoppersmarket.on.ca/ - a local classifieds newspaper.  Looks like $600 to $700/month but if you search around you might be able to do better.

Belleville has a small "downtown" that has been almost entirely killed off by the big-box chain stores outside the city.  There's a library, a couple of good coffee shops (Coffee Undergrand on Front Street is good), some restaurants and bars, and two or three strip joints I've never been to. Today it seems that Belleville Ontario could be almost any American small town, except that the people are friendly and don't carry guns :-)

Supposedly there's even a Linux club, but I fear it's actually defunct.  On the other hand, there are opportunities for boating on Lake Ontario, and you can certainly visit Prince Edward County and Sandbanks, and there's a multiplex cinema next to Chapters and Starbucks and Future Shop and Michael's...

Good luck with the course! I hope it goes well and that you have a good time!
