  1. I presume that you are talking about ordinary bullets from 0.22 to 50 caliber.

Before you go into costing, you have to determine first the thickness and type of steel armor that you need. This is done by getting the penetration on sand of a particular bullet then find the equivalent thickness of a particular steel armor composition equivalent to the sand penetration value. These are normally given in bullet tests and armor data sheets. (You may have to get in touch with somebody in the military to obtain these).

After you have determined what type and thickness of armor steel that you need then you can probably find the cost through the Internet.

  2. In case your question isn't just hypothetical, you can get bulletproof sheetrock these days. There are a few grades of it. Some of the lower grades are for protection against stray handgun bullets or a much higher grade for protection against stray hunting rifle rounds. Of course the higher the grade the higher the cost.

The level of protection you would require is based on just what type of round you would be likely to encounter.

Living in an inner city area it would be impractical to line your living area with a sheetrock rated to stop a hunting round as most likely all that would be encountered was handgun fire.

However living out in the country one would be more likely to encounter a stray hunting round and the sheetrock rated for a handgun round would be inadequate.

  3. i work in a shop that used to make armour for hummvee's, try 1 1/2 thick aluminum.....

  4. How big of sheet? what kind of bullet are you trying to stop ( for example, hand gun or military rifle) Do you want an alloy armor plate or just thick low carbon steel ? (i.e. relatively cheap, but heavier for a given level of protection)

With the number of variables it is hard to give a specific answer

  5. more than you want to spend. just get it pre cut to your size.

A sheet will bu unmanageable anyway you will have to havea hydraulic shear with specail cutters.
