It depends on what state of the art means to you.  Do you want something like an ADT system or something with video surveillance? Most likely you are talking about the first.  Often they are free equipment with a monitoring agreement. They give away basic systems when you commit to a contract term of 2-3 years.  It is possible to get them on apartments, but you will want to check your lease. I've included a link to one of the better security providers.  I've had ADT, Brinks, Slomin's, and GE over the years.  The first 3 lacked on quality equipment and charged for repairs. GE covers their equipment at no cost to you.  No matter what company you choose, monitoring costs about $35 per month.
