  1. You don't want to become a stockbroker.  Following are the reasons: a) For example-- You work at Merrill Lynch and the analysts tell you what to recommend; you're still just as liable even if you tell the client(s) the FIRM recommended the security/investment; b) The discount environment has lead to more salaried brokers than commission and the starting wage isn't very good around $30-36k (if you think that's good than go for it...you'll suffer as a result); c) Even "commission" houses like Merrill Lynch base your pay more on how much the assets under your "management" are than on your buying an selling for accounts.  In other words your pay will vary according to how many millions of dollars are on the books with you as representative.  d) You'll constantly be whining for clients to invest with you and everyone's cousin, uncle, aunt, sister, brother, etc is a stockbroker.  e) Its simply not as easy to prosper in the securities brokerage field as it used to be (many years ago only Ops folks worked on salary...not most brokers do to which severely limits upside potential in earnings).

My advice is to steer clear of this field of work unless you are VERY weell connected with VERY well healed (wealthy) people that are ready, willing, and able to do business with you.  GOOD LUCK!
