The number I've heard bouncing around is about 75,000 starting. Get licensed in a state that requires structural clearance.  on every build, including an addition to a house. You'll make a killing.

Also note that to compete as a structural engineer, it is wise to  get a masters degree. Most feel the 4 years of civil doesn't justify the liability that comes with structural science. very few schools offer a  4 year degree in structural engineering. Purdue comes to mind as one that does.
