  1. I used to work for BN (BNSF now) in the 90s as a switchman. All trainmen got paid the same, whether a switchman, engineer, or brakeman. It was X amount of money per mile. But a switchman doesn't really accumulate miles, so the pay was 110 miles per shift, usually 6 to 8 hours. The system is still the same now, but I don't know what the money per mile is currently. I now work as an engineer for a short line industrial line and get paid a yearly salary.

  5. Depending on your union agreement, a basic day is anywhere from $150 to $200, then you could add overtime, any claims you might have.
