Check with the church you want to wed in.  they probably have one cost for members and one for non members.  they may also have doctrinal standards they want you to adhere too.

Remember you need to pay for the musicians and a gift to the cleric.

How big do you want your reception?  A new trend in America is a Pot Luck reception.  Ask your friends to bring a couple of foods to share instead of a wedding gift.  Then hire a dejay and enjoy a night of food, friends and frivolity.

There is really no such thing as a "typical" wedding.  I have known people who have had something very casual and were able to do it for under $1,000.  Then I have known people who had fancy wedding at country club, and it cost them over $30,000.  I consider anything other than $5,000 to be low-budget and anything over $20,000 to be expensive.

The average cost in Ireland is 30,000 euros (thats about 45,000 dollars and 23,000 pounds).  We're doing a winter church wedding (2009) & so far our costs are coming in around that.
