  1. club players in the states make nothing... from playing rugby!  they have other real jobs.  all cities have club teams... and we pay dues to play... usually about $100 a season and pay for our own travel and lodging.  even at the all star level- players have to pay their own airfare to national matches.  i believe the eagles even payed their own way to france for Rugby World Cup 07!!!!  i know that there are some natioanl players that have recently been signed as pro players... one includes todd clever... he was the first.  but i have no idea how many pro players there are currently signed nor how much they make.  its a very new thing.  the strucutre of the rugby system is completely different here in the states because the sport is so new... we're still trying to figure it all out.  my only guess is that they would be paid per game played at the national level.

right now- there are cities that have rugby clubs in different divisions: I, II, III.  diviisions are based on past performance, strength of club, size.

each city club team bleongs to a LAU (local area union): for example... im in charleston, SC and i bleong to the palmetto union.  thats the pool of teams you'll play during the season in your division.  then each LAU is in a TAU (territorial area union)... im in the south TAU.

so during regualr major season (mens- spring/ womens- fall) the clubs do playoffs in their territories and then nationally.

for example, my hometown mens club is in division II and there are play-offs for nationals may 16/17 in Autin, TX.  they are doing fund raising to help REDUCE the cost for players... they have to buy their own plane tix and everything.

each TAU has an all-star team with try-outs- usually on the off major season  then the all star teams from each TAU play each other in nationals.  thats where the scouts for the eagles teams hang out and thats one way that national team players are found.  so the only people that have an occupaiton of "rugby player" are the eagles...sort of!

  2. rugby in the state is minor compared to Aussie and NZ or Europe. a player may earn 18 or 20 thousand a session.

  3. In europe, probably a little less than a soccer player.

in the u.s., not a lot

  4. Depends on what his other job is.

  5. Rugby in the US is entirely amateur, so nothing.  I think that the players have to pay their own way to go to any international competitions, too, unless they have sponsors.

  6. In the us the top tier rugby players make absolutely nada for the time being unless the can find a way to play overseas.
