  1. Adoption from foster care is virtually cost free.

Private domestic adoption can be expensive or not.  It depends on the situation.

International adoption is going to be expensive.  It can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $50,000 depending on where you adopt from & what agency you use.

There is an adoption tax credit from the federal government (go to http://www.irs.gov and search "adoption tax credit" for more info), some states also have tax credits for adoptive parents.

some employers offer adoption benefits.  When you would like to adopt, maybe you could either seek out an employer with this benefit or talk to the Human Resources department of your company to see if they will implement it.  You can Google the Dave Thomas Foundation to get more information on companies with this benefit & how to ask the HR department to implement it.

I think it's great to begin looking into things even before you're old enough.  Good for you.

  2. It can be very costly, but if you go through you local foster care agency, it would be almost free.  There are so many kids in foster care that come up for adoption, and they desprately need kind caregivers.

  3. My husband and I adopted through an agency called Family To Family Adoption Inc.  ( fam2fam.ord) and including some birthmom expenses it cost us just over $17,000 plus $500 for lawyer fees for finalization at 6 months.

  4. You can adopt from foster care for FREE.  Actually in some cases you'll even get a stipend, and if you foster first you'll get monthly assistance.

  5. as much as you are willing to pay for a baby and sometimes they pay you to take them

  6. I live in PA and I just spoke to a couple the other day who had adopted. She said they spent between 20 and 30 thousand on it and that it was alot of paperwork and red tape. That figure was much higher than I expected.

  7. I'm not as familiar with domestic adoption, but I can speek to international adoption.  International adoptions cost around $25,000, but many employers have adoption assistance, and there is an adoption tax credit of about $11,000.  The reason that international adoption is so expensive is NOT government payoffs as someone incorrectly told you.  The extra expenses are visas and other U.S. immigration expenses, background checks, etc., travel expenses (international travel is expensive!), fees to the adoption agency for their services, and a fee to the facility that has been taking care of your baby (which is the only part of your money that actually goes to the foreign government).  This helps to provide care for other children in the facility.

  8. Adopting from the U.S. foster care system is generally the least expensive type of adoption, usually involving little or no cost, and states often provide subsidies to adoptive parents. Stepparent and kinship adoptions are often not very costly. Agency and private adoptions can range from $5,000 to $40,000 or more depending on a variety of factors including services provided, travel expenses, birthmother expenses, requirements in the state, and other factors. International adoptions can range from $7,000 to $30,000.

While there may be a small fee required up front, any requirement that all fees be paid immediately following application should raise red flags. When talking with your professional, ask about the payment schedule, and about sliding scale fees if your financial resources are limited.

There are a growing number of resources to help manage the cost of adoption, including tax benefits (some of which apply to public agency adoptions as well), loans, employer benefits, and others.

  9. Depends on where you adopt.  If you go through your local county/state adoption it's not quite as expensive.  Private adoptions through lawyers can be anywhere from $10,000 plus.  Overseas adoptions are running from $25,000 plus.

  10. you can adopt within the united states for about 3 thousand.  if you want to go internationally, it's more like 20 thousand at least.  there are lots of kids waiting for homes in the usa.  just talk to a local agency where  you live to find out about the costs of having a homestudy completed.

  11. Last I heard....Romanian children were costing prospective parents $20,000.  You can still adopt in Africa for about half of that...most of the money is 'payoff's' to government officials by the way.

  12. its obviously a lot of money no matter where.. which is stupid.. cuz we are helping them.. like pshh

  13. I just adopted here in the US and it was $19000.

  14. i cant believe it COSTS money thats terrible, if it not bad enough for the child then they seem to get SOLD!!!

wow well i hope they get good homes and the money isnt such an issue.

  15. My sister in law and brother in law are trying to adopt a newborn baby girl and they had to give the mom 35,000.00 plus pay for her delivery  and hospital bill and make sure the baby had 10,000.00 dollars in a account that they have to add 1,000-5,000 dollars every year so that the child will be able to go to college or whatever she needs to do when she gets older and give the adoption agency total control over the child they can come into her house any time and any day to check on the baby and if they dont have enough food or clothes or diapers they can come and take the baby out of their house.  so they had to borrow from family and friends and from a bank about 60,000. 00 and they are in debt up the wazzoo.  they live in tn and so it probably varies from state to state.  even though they dont know if they will get the baby they got to name her and my sister in law is so attached to her she will be devastated if it doesnt work out.  so if u can afford it go with it and their adoption is open adoption and they have met the mother and father of this baby and have a good relationship with her.  but even if they get the child the mother has 6 months to change her mind.  please be careful and i hope that things work out for u.  god bless
