  1. On a 4 point scale, an "F" counts as a zero, so if you were taking 5 classes of the same semester hour value, the easiest way to find out is to add your grades together, then divide by 5.  Say you had 2 B's and 2 C's and the F.  B's are worth 3 and C's are worth 2, so 3+3+2+2+0= 10, divided by 5 = 2,  without the F class, it would be 2.5, so the F brought your GPA down .5.  Hope that helps.  If your classes are of uneven semester hour value, add according to hour values, so a three hour class with a B is worth 9, and a 4 hour value class is worth 12, add them all together and divide by the number of total hours you took.  It's a little longer to do, but totally accurate.  With a "W," no grade is assigned, but no hours are credited to the total.  Your teacher must really like you.

  2. Well it all depends...the F is accumulated into all your other grades as well. The GPA depends on all your grades together, from all semesters.

So depending on how many classes you've taken, it makes a difference.

But also, if this is a class that you are required to take for graduation, they'll probably tell you you need to retake the class, and the better grade will replace the F.. at least that's how it works in my New Jersey school.

So mostly, it's just a matter of spending money to retake the class...

Unless it's just an elective that doesn't count toward graduation, it's better to just withdraw if you're not gonna retake it.

But mostly.. I'd talk to your school counselor about all your options! It could be different rules at your school....

But if you're considering keeping the F, ask someone to do the math for you and see how that turns out..

    Hope this helped!

  3. An F brings down your grade depending upon what the other grades were and how many other grades you have./

In any event you GPA is poor and you should work on raising it.
