  1. As an independent contractor you should expect to earn around £400 per day.  You would need relevant experience.  Working for one of the bigger firms, such as Accenture, Deloitte, Capgemini, your salary depends on your grade, which depends on experience.  As a new graduate you might get £25-30k, with a couple of years experience, if you're good it's £35k - 45k, as a team lead or manager expect £50k - 75k.

  2. Go to salary.com or salaryexpert.com and enter the information for the job.

  3. It depends on what they are doing, what their skills are and what they negotiate.

Most people calling them selves IT consultants are either farmed out from larger companies such as EDS or are independent contractors.

If working for EDS the salary would usually be in the range £25k - £45K. If independent the salary would be in the range £30K - £130K.

If independent you would be expected to be a talented software engineer and have hardware knowledge. You would be brought into a company for a period of 3-6 months initially to sort out a problem and produce results. Your best paying customers are either banks or defence industries.
