and even the governing bodies of the various sports have their own rewards

plus sponsors usually have their own rewards also

You are NOT paid anything for winning a gold medal. Your country might give you some money, but Olympians usually make their money off endorsement deals.

no money from the International Olympic Committee or from Beijing Olympic Organising Committee (that I'm aware of) but some countries do pay million dollar bonuses if their athletes win gold. Then there are also endorsements and deals with big brands/corporates etc

the olympic committee does not pay cash prizes. some countries do to encourage athletes to push themselves harder but i don't believe statistics or dollar amounts have been released.
