For 50+ people you'd need a half-sheet cake.  The supermarkets in my area (Detroit metro) sell half sheet cakes starting around $35.00.

1/2 sheet at Sams Club is like $20, regular grocery store will be a little more

if you buy half of a sheet cake at costco you will only spend like 15.99...it will feed many many many people!
