I believe the average wedding in the United States is $20,000-$25,000.  But! It certainly doesn't have to be! Mine is close to it, about $15,000--but we've been saving for a year and a half, already have a home, and are paying cash--so no debt! But, while we could be more extravagant and put the difference on credit cards we chose to live within our means, which is the best advice I could give anyone.  Whether it's $15,000 or $1,500--stay within your means and put little to nothing on a credit card! And HAVE FUN!! You're getting married, make that the highlight of your wedding day! :) Good luck and congratulations!!

I got married in Feb 2008. By the way, I have only known my hubby for 1 yr 3 months 24 days.(since first encounter until now)

I had only one wedding gown. It was a pastel purple long tube dress, and I paid for all the wedding expenses, so my last drawn salary of S$1300 pay(only) as a shipping clerk per month was spent mostly on our wedding, held with the Singapore Hokkien Huey Kuen, on the large framed up picture with a bridal shop(which has shifted), on the 2 sets of wardrobe done, and all other expenses. Total, I think I spent close to S$8,000.

I agree with way too much. Mine is costing 10,000 for 90 people...of course my dress was kind of expensive and the church was 1,400.00...and the reception is on a boat. So I actually purchased the cheaper meal and went to a cheaper cake place, etc... but I agree with 10,000 - 20,000 is average.Less people, cheaper wedding, etc...

I'm in the process of planning my wedding.

My fiance and i made our Budget for 20,000$, but most people are trying to tell us we might go over a little.

So we are going to try for the $20-$25k mark and not go over at all.

But we are going to make sure the Food and decor is the Number one things.

And my Dress and Flowers and Entertainment is number 2.

WAY too much! Don't spend more than a couple grand at the most. Save your money for things that matter - like a home.

mine is very nice but by making my own everything and using silk flowers my wedding is under 2500 and i am having it outdoors and at a family club!! if you look and really try they can be wonderful and inexpensive.
