I am in college to become an early childhood ed teacher.I work as a nurse aide and one of my coworkers does kindergarten teaching on the side. She has her own daycare.

She complains that the teachers with the Bachelors and Masters earn more money and she says its not fair that the income is based on what degree he/she has.

How much does an early childhood ed teacher earn with a Bachelors?

How much does an early childhood ed teacher earn with a Masters or PhD?

  1. 1.  Your friend is an idiot.  Why WOULDN'T a school be willing to pay for someone with more education?

    2.  Before you start teaching children, please brush up on your English skills.  In particular, learn the proper use of "a" vs. "an".   (As in, "a MA".  That should be, "an MA".)

  2. It all depends where you work.  If you choose to work in the public school system and teach kindergarten,  you will get a good salary, health benefits and a great retirement plan, then your income will increase by the amount of units and degrees you have.  In the school system, they value education and have a salary scale that shows increases based on experience and education.  Each state is different.  In CA, each district has its own pay scale and a begining kindergarten teacher will earn about $38,000 if she has a teaching credential (more extensive than the ECE certificate).  In the public schools, a MS or MA will give you a stipend and most districts add $1,500 for a Dr, degree,

I do not know what a private preschool will charge, but I would guess half that amount, without the good benefits.

Now, if you choose to work in Head Start, Children's Centers, or other govt. early childhood centers, your salary will be significantly less and you only need the ECE credential, not a masters degree.
