  1. Go to zales.com. Seriously. My fiance and I looked after he proposed (he didn't have the money for a ring at the time, and I was fine with it), and they have some GREATLY priced, gorgeous engagement rings. The one he got me is white gold, with white sapphires. Since I'd seen it I know how much it was, lol. This one was about $130, and I actually saw it on sale for about $100 a few weeks later. Check out what they have! You might find something very nice that's within your budget! :)

Edit - I should also add that no one that has seen my ring can tell that it is NOT a diamond. My advice? If you're going to spend a lot of money on a ring, save it for the wedding bands! :)

  2. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend and can afford.  It can range from like $300- thousands of dollars.  Def. don't get stuck putting it on your credit card or anything like that b/c you'll just end up in debt if you can't afford it.  Remember to do tons of research on buying diamonds and everything so you don't get cheated.  The one I want is about $8,000 :)

  3. I suggest you ask a good friend of hers to find out what sorta ring she would want. THEN do your research. I think you don't have to spend more than 750 for the set. ( 1 think you can get a  1ct tw in gold ) for that price. :)

As some one else said Zales is great for deals on rings (check their clearance selection when its an extra 30% off) ;) thats where my guy insists on getting my diamonds from. Also, you could jewerly exchange or JTV.com and get her something custom (its not that expensive..I think you could do a candlelight  half ct. for about $400 and a matching band in diamonds for another 180. oh, yeah I know guys (well most don't use these but....) COUPONS...my guy used a $200 off $400 code I found to purchase me some stuff for vday. He saved money and I got more sparkles in the end we were both happy :)

    hope this helps

  4. it depends on what your gf will want... rings are anywhere from 750-thousands. go check out a jewelry store to get a better idea.

  5. You can spend anywhere from a couple hundred dollars up to many thousands.  Totally up to you.  It would be better to start saving and then determine what you can afford with that rather than try to save up for a particular amount.

To see what you might like and how much it might cost, I recommend checking out Blue Nile - http://www.bluenile.com - as they have many styles to choose from and you can "insert" nearly any size/shape/grade of diamond in to see what it looks like and the resulting price.

  6. i can sell u one for $1500 diamond cutz

  7. Diamondg dude..no you can not get a 1carat diamond in gold for 750 bucks...it would be very yellow and scratches and cuts all over it..it would pretty much be a crapper...lots of diamond stores have payment plans so those are easy to go by!  My ring is a 1 carat center diamond with 6 diamonds on each side totally .60 of a carat..and that was 8 grand...so prepare to spend a decent amount..depending on what your g/f wants!

  8. Jewelry companies say 3 months salary (of course they would! LOL). I think a month is fine.

  9. The cost will depend on if you choose 14k or 10k gold.  It will also depend on the size and quality of the diamond.    Look on-line, look in several stores.   Talk with the sales associates.   They will work with you and tell you when a sale will be and work with you to help you time your purchase well.   Many stores offer "upgrades", where can trade in one diamond for a larger one later on.  Choose a store, and a sales professional where you feel comfortable.

  10. if $500 is all you have to spend than that is fine, most girls are happy to be asked to be married, the size of the ring isn't that important. Besides you can always upgrade later.

  13. It depends on your place in life and how much money you have to spend. You don't want to get in debt.

Spend what you can afford. I suggest you do some research on the 4 C's related to diamonds.

$500 isn't going to get you much more than a gold band, in some cases. However, if that is what you can afford, then that is what you can afford.

  14. It depends on what she/you want.  $500 can buy a beautiful gemstone ring, but probably not a diamond engagement ring.

My ring is a very good quality .6 carat Canadian diamond with pink sapphire side stones.  It was $3500, but my fiance paid near wholesale prices (he bought it through a friend of the family who is a private jeweler  that made it for him) it is appraised for $6000.

Just shop around and don't let jewelry stores talk you into a loan/financing to afford something else.

  15. normally the answer is 3 months salary = cost of an engagement ring. Unless you are trying to surprise her you may want to involve her in the decision.  Not all women are money grubbing gold digger that will want the most expensive ring. She might have some creative ideas than even would save money.

  16. Believe it or not, Jennifer L is right. My hubby got me a beautiful solitaire from Sam's Club, and I always get compliments on it!

It's a .86 carat, E color, Very Good cut, with an SI2 clarity...

While the clarity is not the best out there, the inclusion is not noticeable at all, and my hubby got a great price on it because of it. That gave him the opportunity to "upgrade" to a colorless grade and higher carat (He was going for at least a .5 carat, H-I color... Even better for me!)

Base the amount you will spend on your current finances...

While I can't complain about what I got, I was only expecting a $300 ring 1/5 carat solitaire... I had really wanted a $700 1/3 carat solitaire, but wasn't pretentious enough to expect something "that grand" (if only I had known!)

My hubby says he only spent about $1,500 (which I was ready to kill him for spending so much on a piece of jewelry) but now that I have "educated" myself about diamonds (check http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-and-jewe... ) I suspect that he probably spent more than that, unless he got a SUPER discount/hookup.

Get an idea of what kind of jewelry she likes...

Another possibility are semi-precious engagement rings... I recently found this one, and fell in love (too late for engagement, obviously, but birthday present, maybe?)

Good Luck, and as long as she's not a gold-digging wh*re, I'm sure she'll love whatever you pick... There's no better gift than one that comes from the heart of the best man in the world... And knowing that you'll be the one marrying him...

    ADD-

For around $500 you can get:

    http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigat...

Or, stop by a local (small, not chain) jewelry store and ask to see what they have around that range of money... also, consider looking at non-diamond alternatives (NOT cubic zirconia, of course)

  17. I worked in jewelry for over 2 years. The best thing to do first is educate yourself on the 4 C's. Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat. When it comes to purchasing your diamond, stay away from the mall! The average mark-up in mall jewelry stores is 300%! Thats how they can afford to have the big 75% off sale or whatever other "clearance" price. I know it sounds silly, but I would look into buying your ring at Sam's Club or Costco. The average mark-up in wholesale stores like that is 8.5%. They may not have as big of a selection as other jewelry stores, but your money goes a lot further there. The jewelry they have at Sam's is the same they have anywhere else, most of the time, better quality! I would definitely do some research on the 4 C's and shop around your local jewelers and wholesale clubs! Good luck and congratulations!

  18. $500 is perfect. you can find gorgeous 1/4 to 1/3 carat rings for that price.
