The quote I got from this service guy says it runs upwards of $125-150. Is this true?

  1. So the question is: are you replacing an existing outlet, or do you want an outlet installed in a new location (where there isn't one already)?

Another factor is: where do you live?  It'll cost a lot more in NYC or Tokyo than it will in Biloxi or Ho Chi Minh City.

  2. Sorry, I have to correct something... I am an electrician.  It is a GFCI outlet, ground fault circuit interrupter.  It will cost you anywhere between $10- $20.  If there is an existing outlet there, this is something you can do yourself.  Just follow the directions included.  If you still get lost, lowes.com has a how-to area and I'm pretty sure there is a step-by-step area that shows how to wire outlets and switches.

If there is no existing outlet I'm afraid it will cost you.  A professional usually runs around $60/hr.  Plus all the additional stuff.  It still should only be about a 2 hr job, and that's the worst case scenario.  Hope I helped.

  3. are you talking about a 120 volt 15 amp bathroom wall outlet commonly known a a GFI ??

The outlet itself costs between 10 and 12 dollars. If there is already an outlet in the bathroom the change over takes at the most 1/2 hour.

if he's rewireing a new one then yes its reasonable, if he's just replacing one you can do it yourself

  5. If you are a do it yourselfer you could get the outlet plug at lowes or home depot for less than $10.00 and takes less than ten minutes to change it out.Good luck.

  6. Listen to pumajone, hes right. we are currently remodeling and it cost us a total of around 30 dollars for the GFCI outlet, outlet cover, outlet box, and new wire. but to pay someone, it will easily cost you around 150.00 to 200.00

  7. You are talking about a GFI. Ground Fault Interrupter. Could be true, the price I mean. They are pretty expensive at the store, around $30-$50. The aren't to hard to put in yourself,I did it,but I know something about electrical . If you can cook, you can hook one up yourself.Just follow directions, and be sure to turn your power off before you start any electrical task. Byee

  8. Look for a new service guy. Where I live it's around $10.00 for the switch and $25.00-$40.00 for installation. This depends on how trouble it is to run a wire.

  9. This is called a GFCI (ground fault interrupt circuit) and is available  at most home improvement stores (i.e. Home Depot, Lowes etc.) and cost from 8 to 15 dollars.

Of course the electrician fee is expensive.
