its a by-product of steel making. it is used as a substitute for lime to raise soil ph. it also contains some phosphate.

  1. It is a byproduct that otherwise costs money to dispose of, so in ton lots it ought only to cost transportation from the nearest mill. Fly ash might also be cheap for the same reason. Both have a greater tendency to cause alkali burn than lime/limestone products.
