  8. My suburb does not have bus service, but in the major city, bus passes are $1.50 for adults and $0.75 for children 5-18 and senior citizens. Day passes are $3, week passes are $15, and monthly passes are $50 for adults. The discounted ones are half that.

  15. The fare for a subway or local bus ride is $2. The fare for an express bus ride is $5. If you qualify for reduced fare, you can travel for half fare. Up to three children 44 inches tall and under ride for free on subways and local buses when accompanied by a fare paying adult. Infants (under two years of age) ride express buses free if the child sits on the lap of the accompanying adult.

If the farecard (MetroCard) is used then there is a free transfer to the subway or another bus if used within 2 hours.  If the fare is paid in cash (coins only) then only a free transfer to another bus is given.

  16. 1 dollar - one way or 2 dollars for a ticket to ride the bus all day.  It costs thirty dollars for a monthly pass.  I don't know the student rate but it's less.

  17. $0 in Chapel Hill NC.  The University of NC contributes a large part of the funding for the system, primarily to get students, faculty, and staff to campus.  But the bus system covers the town and anyone can ride.  This does not make it free of course; someone is paying through taxes.
