I'm 19 now. When I wanna get my own car when i'm 20. I never had a car before. but my dad says he won't let me drive away his car without him sitting next to me. I hate that, so I want to buy a second hand car n I can be free to go anywhere, and hide it at my friend's place so my dad won't know it. so I guess I need to purchase somekind of insureance by myself, I don't want to be covered under my dad's insurance since I dont want him to know at all. any information or opinion will be helpful thx!!

  1. There are several factors insurance companies use to determing what you pay in premiums.  They are:

    Your age

If you are a Male or Female (insurance is usually cheaper for females)

The kind of car you are driving  (They will ask for the VIN number,  it will tell them everything they need to know about the vehicle).

    Your driving record

    Where you live

What you will be using the vehicle for  (pleasure or drive to work)

And now, some insurance companies use your credit score to determing the rate you will be paying

A good tip to remember is to stay away from "independent insurance agencies"  they sell for many companies.   Inquire at one company only insurance agencies like State Farm,  Allstate,   Farm Bureau,  Nationwide,  etc.  They are usually able to give better rates and discounts.

I would like to ask you not to hide things from your dad,  If you bought the car and will be paying for the insurance,  why hide it??    Whether he likes it or not,  you can hold your head up high that you are being responsible enough to have a car on your own.
