  1. You should spend around a $100 an hour and they're availble at most small airports

  2. It really depends upon where you go and your own ability. To get your private pilot rating it should average between 5800.00 and 7800.00.  You can get information on how to start at http://www.beapilot.com/

    Hope this helps!

  3. you would spend about $150 an hour. you can find them in small airports

  4. The minimum is 40 hours of flight time, however most people that I've talked to were in to 60-70 hour range when the completed their ppl.  At least half of that time will be with an instructor, so figure in their hourly rate as well.  Check out the rates at your local small airport.

There are some ways to get keep the costs under control:

Buying a plane through a lease back program may save you some money.

Flying often so you don't get rusty between lessons will help.

I'd also recommend taking the written exam before starting your lessons.  This will save a lot of time going over things with your instructor.

Pay for you lessons in large chunks of $.  My flight school gives a 10% bonus if you drop $1000 at a time.  (although be careful not to front too much.  Recently a school in Nevada went bankrupt and kept all of the student's credit.)

  5. I'm currently flying out of VNY (Van Nuys, California) and private pilot lessons cost about $120/hour for aircraft and another $50/hour for instructor. Only start if you know you can finish.

  6. You can start off by learning how to fly in an ultralight plane and be an ultralight or sport pilot.  I'm not sure where you are located at but you can check out http://www.freedomfield.com for flight instruction.

  7. You are looking at around 85 - 135/hr for an airplane these days (Cherokee, Warrior, or a 172 ) A Cessna 150 or similar would be a tad less.... An instructor...with inflation of todays economy would probably be $35-$55.00/hr.

I charged $30.00/hr back  in 03-05...so it is probably a bit more these days....Do it now...while it is still an option for the regular working man....

    Take a minute and calculate....

    Books/Supplies - Jeppesen has some great material..so does gleim...anywhere from $85 - $200.00 for these

You do not have to take ground school..although most people do...this will run about $200.00 for the course...maybe more in some places..im basing this from a few years ago..

A minimum of 40 hours total time ( will work out to be a little more usually)

Take 25 of that for buffer with an instructor...120 (average, + 35.00 (average for a CFI these days)

Work on it as much as you can...

Bottom line is around 5- 8K....

Go to the NAFI website (National Association of Flight Instructors) and click to FIND AN INSTRUCTOR...

www.nafinet.org.....enter your city and info and it will pull up phone numbers and locations of all active CFI's that are members in your area....

Best of luck on your adventure.....
