How much does having a baby cost the NHS?

  1. I doubt there would be a an average as it would depend on the pregnancy ie - how many scans, multiple births or single birth,  each scan must be what ?  a couple of hundred each,  add onto that midwife appointments, some pregnancy need a consultants appointment,  some high risk pregnancies mean a lengthy stay in hospital (I was in for 5 weeks before the birth of my daughter).  

    IVF can cost many thousands, plus rough figures for the birth are £1350 for a vaginal birth and £2400 for a c-section,  on top of that dependencies would be if the baby needed special care.

    I am sure there are other circumstance I have missed.
